It turns out that this past weekend wasn't the last weekend for disc golf at Solitude Ski Reort. They are going to be open next week as well. There was patchy snow left from the storm that raced through Utah on Saturday. The course was pretty much ours.
I realize there has been precious little disc golf blogging this season. I apologize.

Score card update
I've been meaning to post these score cards for your perusal. You will note that we on the Wilhelm team appear to be making progress.
Card 1: The NP Bone Birthday Invitation Cup
The Late JC had a solid day (he is Cat on the card). I (Orris) started out well with a birdie but then quickly fell into a doldrum of double bogies. Bone was solid, but given that he was red shirted for a year in Korea, it is understandable why he bogied most of the holes.
Card 2: The Day of the Long Throw
For day two of our disc golf camp, Dustin started out by throwing his disc halfway into the next county. I'm not kidding. The disc soared straight and long, and we found it halfway into the next green. As you can see (Bone) was the overall winner and completely recuperated his score from the previous day. My score came down 2 strokes as well.
Card #3: The Canyons
The Canyons course is so short you can easily play it twice in about an hour and a half (with no lallygagging.) While fun, the course is only moderately challenging and should be all par 3. The course has some great dog legs and is mostly uphill (not super-steep hills). I would recommend the course for beginners and folks just out to have some fun in the woods. While our scores don't show incredible play, it would seem that one could learn this course quite easily. JC seems to have become bored and neglected to score the final holes.
Card 4: Friday the 13th
Both JC and I did really quite well on this outing. I think 70 might be my best score ever, but I will have to look through the record. While I am not great disc golfer, I do feel my game has improved handily since I have adopted the flick as my basic throw and have consciously attempted to improve my game by analyzing my discs, my throw, and my game strategy.

Cheers, Texas style!
What better way to celebrate an excellent day of disc golfing at Solitude (Utah) than a Shiner Bock? I threw the best I ever have. A birdie on the opening hole and only one really bad fuck up where I went into the devilish ravine twice! (That was a real pisser, I tell you what.) I finished at least 9 strokes under my average and I won the back 9! Boo yeah!

descending to Park City
As JC notes:
"this is the ride back down from the disc golf course at the Canyons. It's not as good as the one at Solitude, but it's still fun. And you get to ride in the gondola!"

JC's throw
This thing sored and ended up in the creek. Look at the flickr stream to see JC fishing it out.
My best disc golf photograph ever
Catinlap and I headed up to Park City to play the brand-new Cayons disc golf course. While it was not the fun trek that Solitude is, it was a quick entertaining 9 holes. Pros would find it amateurish, but I think most people would find it quite enjoyable.

This is My Forest
Bone came into town two weeks ago directly from Korea. Nearly the first thing we did was disc golf. YEAH!

Season openner 2007
Although we have been having fun with the disc golf basket in the park and have gone to Creekside a couple of times, it really isn't disc golf season until we "take it to the 'tude" by playing the magnificent course at Solitude Ski Resort in Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah. Yesterday the crew (including our now ex-ex-pat Nathan) and I headed up the canyon to try our luck with the course.
In planning for the trip we were a bit hesitant on what to wear, since it was a rather cold weather we've had here in Salt Lake for the last week, and it did snow quite a bit in the mountains. So with some hemming and hawing, we donned our gear and headed out. I chose to wear shorts, as did JC, but Dustin and Nathan were more conservative and suspicious of the weather, so they wore long pants. Our weather trepidation was allayed, however, the moment we stepped from the car at Solitude. I don't think one could ask for more pleasant weather, despite the skiffs of snow on the ground.
Overall it was a decent outing. I still hover in the 80's (given my consistent bogies), but the other guys are getting much tighter games. Dustin started off as I did once last season with a birdie on the first hole. Although losing one disc in a rather high pine, Nathan had a very good game. JC too showed his skills by chalking up pars. Dustin had the most consistent game and, with the help of his opening birdy
Our shining moment cam eon hole 12 where we all threw par. Believe it or not, that has never happened before.
Pictures to follow.
